Question by Varinder Singh: What set of skills should a community development worker have to make people participate in community building?

Could anyone please give me an idea about the set of skills which a community development worker must have in order to make community participate in community development project? I was thinking that about communication skills and networking skills but I am not sure. Please help.

Be more explicit -- what does networking really *mean*? It means being able to identify unofficial community leaders and reaching out to them, for instance. There are elected officials and successful business people who everyone knows, but what about women in a community of faith (for instance, a church) who have a lot of influence on how a community thinks or acts? A networker has to know not only how to identify both official and unofficial community leaders, a networker has to know how to reach out to those individuals, as well as a variety of groups -- how to build trust with them, how to encourage people who do not agree with each other and do not like each other to sit down with each other, etc. The person has to make all of those people feel heard and appreciated, not look like he or she is favoring one group or individual over another, not be manipulated by leaders or group members, etc.
