One more wider shot of Psylocke ready to strike. That can't be comfortable.

So what is going on here? Well, I'm a part of a flickr group called Hold Up Your Book. I love the idea of this group. It merges two of my great interests-reading and photography. I've enjoyed it so much that I've kind of given myself the task of making my photo become a part of the reading experience. I like to try and make a shot that reflects a theme, character or setting from the book that I am currently reading.

In this shot I am reading The Best American Comics 2007. It is a collection of short graphic representations. These are not your Sunday morning comic strips, these are short stories with images-sometimes quite masterfully drawn. Back in college, in one of my literature courses I was introduced to the idea of a graphic novel with the story Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth. Since then, graphic novels have sort of become my special interest in literature. But I digress. In this shot I tried to cartoonify myself a little. I tried to make myself look like a pencil sketch and have the book's colors contrast that. It is not a great use of photoshop but it is about as advanced as I know how to get.

I still read plenty of novels and non-fiction but I try to get in a few graphic novels a year. These aren't superhero stories, either. They are usually quite mundane in terms of the characters and their experiences. But if you love to read I highly recommend giving a graphic novel a try.
