Deno's has been a fixture on Coney Island since 1920, as the sign says. Along with Astroland, it has been the face of Coney Island since its revitalization in the 1960s.

At the end of this year, it will be torn down and Coney Island will once again be reborn as a new park. This photo essay is my attempt to capture the spirit and look of Coney Island to preserve it for those who will never get to see it this way.

Although I am not from Brooklyn, or even New York State, this is all I have ever known of Coney Island since my wife (then my girlfriend) took me there in the spring of 2003. (Here's my first look at Coney Island) So, in a way, it's as if the "original" Coney Island that I "always" knew was being torn down.
